About me

Vittorio Massone

After graduating in Economics with full marks at the Sapienza University of Rome, Vittorio Massone continued his studies at the Bocconi University of Milan, obtaining a Master in Business Administration in 1992. He started his professional career in 1989, when he joined Klopman Textile Industry (Burlington Group) as a Business Analyst. In 1993, after receiving his Master, he undertook a new professional challenge, becoming an Associate at Value Partners, a management consulting firm. The following year he joined Bain & Company, where he was appointed to various roles of increasing responsibility: he served, in fact, as Manager (1995), Partner (1999), and then Director (2004). The positions Vittorio Massone held led him to gain deep experience in sectors such as Telecommunications, Media, Entertainment, Digital, Industrial services, Government, and Automotive. At the same time, he took part to particularly complex Transformations, in particular in the functional areas of strategy, organization, merger and acquisitions, customer experience, operations, and supply chain. As a consequence of his ability to develop trusted relationships with CEOs and Boards, he had the opportunity to work with top-level clients, namely Poste Italiane, Pagine Gialle, Walt Disney, Rai, Consip, Sviluppo Italia, Coni Servizi, Gruppo Espresso, and Il Sole 24 Ore. He was involved in the turnaround of Seat Pagine Gialle, supporting the Management in giving investors a return on their investments of 20 times (1997-2001). In this period, he supported the acquisition of Virgilio/Matrix, his first one in the digital sector (1999). In addition, he was involved in the turnaround of Poste Italiane, which he led with excellent results and without redundancies: the Group went from suffering a loss of 200M Euros to realizing an EBITDA of about 2Bn (2002-2008).

At the end of 2009 Vittorio Massone continued his career abroad: he moved to Johannesburg as Managing Partner of Bain & Company Africa, helping the company to achieve market leadership in South Africa in a few years. An important thrust to this remarkable growth – the team went from nil to 200 people during those years – has been the creation of an excellent, ambitious and cohesive team, a part of which was dedicated to digital projects and digital transformation. During those years, he supported as well several companies in African countries, and has been the leading figure for Bain & Company Africa until the end of 2018. One of his great success in those years is the one achieved during the turnaround of the telecommunications company Telkom SA, whose shares on the stock market grew from 14 to a maximum of about 90 Rand during the program. While in South Africa, he was also member of the Board, and then President of the American Chamber of Commerce in South Africa, as well as Member of the Council at Business Leadership South Africa.

An important feature of Vittorio Massone’s innovative managerial vision is the search for “diversity” within the team. Currently he collaborates with important traditional companies, supporting their digital transformation processes, and with native “digital” companies, helping them to grow and develop. He is member of “YPO”, the Premier Leadership Organization of Chief Executive Officers, with approximately 28,000 members, and Vice President of Alkemy since February 2020.
